#1 on Street Fighter Ranked Matches

Right now I'm #1 on the Street Fighter HD Remix leaderboards in ranked matches (Xbox 360). Ranked matches in almost every game eventually degenerate to cheaters and people who are somehow gaming the system with win-trading, but for now the top ranks do consist of legit players.

Also, as general advice to everyone, I wouldn't obsess about rank. If you start caring about it, it's really limiting. It's better to try new things, try new characters, and not worry about losing. Try to increase your actual ability this way, not an external number. When a tournament comes around (the real test), your ability will matter and your number won't.

You might be wondering which characters I played to get there. Akuma, Sagat, Honda, Bison, Vega, Blanka. In other words, over 1/3rd of the cast, ha. Weighted more toward Akuma, Sagat, Honda though.

Thanks for all the great matches everyone.

Well, I am one of the people you beat to get there. The only loss (out of 5 games) on my record is actually to you right now.

heh.

I suppose I could have guessed you'd be good with everyone, but I just wanted to say...damn. Best Sagat I've played online so far, AND best Akuma for that matter. Good going, and thanks for the excellent game. (I don't know if you'll remember the gamertag, but I'm Skankin Garbage on XBLA.)

How are the ratings calculated? Because I see you are ranked above people with much higher Win/Loss percentages than yourself... I am confused.

I wonder why you didn't use Cammy or Fei instead of the new character nobody knows how to play against and the two candidates for god tier.

Hmm, 128-44 is above a 246-11? What kind of ratings system is this, it seems backwards?

I think Sirlin got a higher rating because he beat higher ranked players. The person who is second place probably played a lot of lower ranked player and that's why his rating is the way it is. Hey Sirlin, can you tell us the screen name for Justin Wong, John Choi and the wolfe brothers? Thanks and congrats on the #1 Rankings! :-)

A few hours ago, my rank was 188 (816 wins over 220 loses). I checked again recently, I was dropped to 16013 place.
I think I need an explanation (i am on PSN)

Like all Xbox games, SF HD Remix uses the (extremely well thought-out) Microsoft TrueSkill system. It's similar to Chess's Elo system, but more sophisticated. It would actually be very surprising if win/loss records did exactly match up with the ranks. Why would they? It doesn't matter how many wins, it matters WHO those wins were against. It doesn't matter how many losses, it matters WHO those losses are against.

It's also not surprising that your rank could go down while you're not playing. While you're not playing, your ranking points aren't changing but other people might be gaining ranking points. Because the game is new, there are still a lot of players that are moving up to where they belong, so it's expected that your rank would go down as all those players settle into their natural ranks (that might be higher than yours).

I feel sorry for "po", above. If I only played 16 characters he'd wonder why I wasn't able to get to #1 without using all 17.

Why is it that if someone quits after I beat them, I'm the one who gets a loss? It's been like this for every online Street Fighter I can remember.

Look: there's me. :D

You might be wondering which characters I used to get there. . . Well, I got there with just BIG GIEF. (He's as big as 2 characters, though [LOL].)

GGs to all.

I'm having trouble getting to Akumas as honda.. the red fireball is destruction, the lp headbutt has to be timed insanely fast to get it to pass through and it'll break supers too; anyone have advice?

I love this game but i want to know a few things about the logic behind T hawk's 360 grab. What beats it exactly? it seems to be able to grab through e hondas hundred hand slap and sometimes a crouching opponent doesn't get grabbed yet in training mode if the other player is set to just crouch he can be grabbed without fail why does the grab whiff when hes stood right next to the other player? He can grab when ryu does a jumping roundhouse to his head yet ryu should have frame advantage at this point. Can anyone enlighten me?

BK, and this is true of which other competitive game, ever? It's actually quite rare.

November 29, 2008 | Registered CommenterSirlin

It is rare, but less so for other genres of games.

You should see Falcoon mashing like a scrub at KOF: MI2. I saw the vid.

Really, congrats Sirlin.

As for people complaining about Honda being god tier. He's only completely unfair in one matchup (Cammy). Chun-Li and Dee Jay beat him for sure, and Ken probably does. Caveat: I don't know if Hawk has it as bad as Cammy , he did before and I think he still does on theory, but I don't play Hawk so I can't test that out.

If there's a patch, I hope Cammy gets something specific to deal with Honda. That's the only gameplay change I'd make for sure right now.
